What is a Hot Work Certificate and who needs one?
Hot Work Training gives participants the knowledge and practical skills needed to carry out hot work safely. After completing the training, participants receive a certificate. A valid Hot Work Certificate shows that the holder understands safe working methods, can identify fire hazards, and knows how to reduce the risk of ignition during hot work.
A Hot Work Certificate is required for anyone who professionally carries out hot work at a temporary hot work site, as well as for anyone who issues hot work permits. Fire watchers must have safety training suitable for their role, so a Hot Work Certificate is also recommended for them.

A hot work permit is a written, fixed-term permit issued for hot work carried out at a temporary hot work site. It is specific to the site and the work being performed, and it is different, and does not replace the Hot Work Certificate, which demonstrates that a person has completed the required training.
